Welcome To Road and Track

Welcome to our Road and Track web site, where you can review many of the parts & services we offer. Whilst we have a strong focus on imported performance, custom, collector & competition cars, we happily offer friendly and professional service to your everyday car, van or 4WD. Our trade and professionally qualified staff will go out of their way to help you. You will find our prices competitive with "everyday" workshops, that cannot offer our range of equipment or skills.

To help the real enthusiasts of particular makes & models, we have a number of technical articles which you can read or download. These come from our collective experience over many years.

The "gallery" section shows pictures of many of our customers cars, whilst thoughout the web site, we have pictures of parts we have made, machines we use, modified components etc. We hope you find them interesting. If you are already a customer, and would like to see your car featured, or advertised for sale, please email us some pics, or give us a call.

Have a nice daySmile

Toyota 3SG 3SGTE engine swaps
PDF

We get numerous requests or engine swaps, mostly using the readily available engine or 1/2 cut packages imported from japan by various specialists. Having performed a large number of these, we thought it would be worthwhile relating a few problems that have to be solved.

The most common conversion request is the Gen3 3SG or 3SGTE into earlier model MR2 , GT4 or Celica. Whilst they look similar to earlier models, and will physically bolt in, all of the 3SG family engines after Oct 93 (identified by oil filter on the sump) require considerable effort to get all the electrics working as they should and look like factory fitments. The biggest advantages of the post 93 engines is they don't use the bulky flap type air flow meter which frees up room in the bay, and they have a better sump system with improved surge control. Of course, the later BEAMS (NA) engines also are the most powerful due to their VVT and better inlet manifold design and the Altessa engine changes to coil-on-plug which is great if you want to increase the boost.

KE17 Sprinter race car
PDF

We are building a KE17 Sprinter coupe for a customer to compete in CAMS Group Nc historic racing. The car started life as a complete and relatively good condition car. Thankfully, it is reasonably straight and with negligible rust, though the mechanics are all "tired".

Building a Fraser Clubman
PDF

A new Fraser clubman sports car arrived (in bits) from NZ and over a 12 month period we progressively built this as a joint project with the cars' owner.

Before ordering the kit we liaised with Fraser cars to try make sure this "kit" would not have a million hassles meeting our rather unique rules and therefore minimize the inevitable registration hassles with individually constructed vehicles (ICV). A detailed submission to Qld Transport yielded very favorable comments resulting in their approval coming back in only 2 weeks (a record apparently!!)

We recently completed our first 2GR conversion into a turbo SW20 MR2. The engine and related electronics came from 2009 Australian Aurion sedan.
